Meet, Giavanna | Spring Intern

By David Chevalier February 28, 2022 6:41 pm

Our Spring Marketing and Development intern is Giavanna Murgia. Giavanna is a junior at Moravian University, studying Communications with a minor in Graphic Design. As the Marketing and Development intern, she contributes to all written materials and uses her creative eye to create new designs for the food bank. Since joining our team, she’s enjoyed seeing how the skills she’s learned at school can be applied to work at an organization.

Check out this Q & A with Giavanna!

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

I am a junior at Moravian University and I am majoring in Communications with a minor in Graphic Design.

What is your role at Second Harvest?

I am the Marketing and Development Intern at Second Harvest. With this position, I help with everything from social media posts to new marketing materials.

What is your favorite thing about your internship?

I think one of my favorite things about my internship is having the opportunity to apply everything I have learned in college so far to a real-world context. It’s been a lot of fun getting to use the skills I have acquired in the different courses I have taken and apply them to such a great organization.

What made you want to intern with Second Harvest Food Bank?

Ever since I took a writing course about nonprofits my freshman year of college, I’ve had the desire to get a better understanding of what nonprofits are all about. When I was on the hunt for different internships, Second Harvest Food Bank really stuck out to me because it has such a great mission and it seemed like a really fun place to work. At Second Harvest, I’m really getting the best of both worlds because not only am I gaining more experience in my desired field, but I’m also getting to work alongside a great group of people who allow me to see the inner workings of a nonprofit.

Tell us a little bit about your background, family life, interests and hobbies, etc.

I’m from Bangor, PA, but my family and I moved to Easton a little less than two years ago. When I’m not at school, I like to hang out with my family and friends, read, play tennis, and take unnecessary trips to Target and Marshall’s.

What do you hope to do after graduating college?

After graduating from Moravian, I hope to land a job at a local magazine. I really hope that I will be able to combine my interest in writing and designing with my profession, and working for a magazine seems like it would be a good fit!

What is your life motto?

Something I live by is “everything happens for a reason.”
