Each year we gather in our warehouse to commemorate another year in action at our beloved Empty Bowls dinner. Even though we cannot be together this year, we hope you will consider supporting Second Harvest in the spirit of our annual Empty Bowls event.
Our network of 200+ nonprofit agencies typically serves more than 60,000 people each month, and during the COVID-19 crisis, that rose to 79,000 people. More than half of the people served are children or seniors. Throughout the crisis, many people who had never considered visiting a food pantry, lost their job and found themselves in need of food for the first time.
At Second Harvest, what we do is about more than food. We know that when families struggle to pay the rent, put gas in the car, pay for childcare, keep the lights on, and pay medical bills, the first thing to get cut is the grocery budget. If Second Harvest is able to provide food to families in need, it might mean that they can stay in their house, or pay for the medicine needed to keep them healthy, because they don’t have to worry about buying groceries, too. The funds raised at Empty Bowls each year help us continue our mission.
You can know that your contribution will have a big impact. Second Harvest operates efficiently, with 96% of donations going directly to helping provide food to people in need, and six meals provided for every $1 donated.
Thank you for all that you’ve done and will continue to do for our community!
