Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania encourages the local community to join Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations. Giving Tuesday, a campaign formed in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York City, encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity worldwide. Second Harvest Food Bank aims to raise $5,000 in 24 hours, which will provide an additional 30,000 meals to families in need this holiday season. Occurring this year on November 28th, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday is a meaningful way for patrons to give back after holiday spending extravaganzas such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“At Second Harvest, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our generous community,” says Jessica Dokachev, Director of Second Harvest. “As the weather grows colder, many families in our area will be faced with the tough choice of keeping the heat on or keeping food on the table. We invite members of our community to join the Giving Tuesday movement and consider giving to Second Harvest. Funds received on Giving Tuesday will impact the lives of many this holiday season.”
